While I was reading this article I went through mixed emotions. I first thought this was crazy that if a parent were to have an underweight child the would be taken away for malnutrition, but when we have a child at the opposite extreme nothing happens. The article made it sound like the mother had given up on trying to feed him healthy food and now just lets him eat what ever he wants, when ever he wants, and however much he wants. In my opinion this is clearly a case of neglecting the child.
However, there was some light near the end of the article:
Connor, from Wallsend, Newcastle, has lost one-and-a-half stone since the start of the year after his mother sought advice from health workers and a dietician.In case you were wondering, 1 stone = 14 pounds... so that is 21 pounds lost in 2 months. This seems like a lot in such a little amount of time; however, it shows light on getting the child back on track. Hopefully he can continue down the right road.
