    Cantata 2007

    12/21/2007 08:30:00 PM

Once again I have been editing the video for Christ the King’s Cantata, a service of music and voices. I tend to forget that no matter how powerful of computer you have, video editing always can eat up all that you have.

This screen shot shows constant 90-100% CPU usage and 3.11 GB of RAM being used. This was caused by a large amount of rendering of some video effects.

If you are interested in a copy, send me an email at kellenb (at) christ4u (dot) net and I will give you all of the details.

    Video Server

Performance monitor for one of our Servers... tough part is figuring out how bad it has to get before you put the money down to upgrade. The CPU usage is almost a constant 24/7.

    Thoughts on The Golden Compass

    12/10/2007 01:57:00 AM

Do a Facebook group search on “The Golden Compass” and you will find groups with titles such as “Do NOT support ‘The Golden Compass’”, “Boycott ‘The Golden Compass’”, “Boycott ‘The Golden Compass’ and it's athiest message”, “1 Million Strong against ‘The Golden Compass’” (which only has 1600 members mind you), and many more.

So what is all of this hype and protesting about? I think the description from one of the groups describes it the best:

“The new children's movie "The Golden Compass" starring Nicole Kidman is based on a trilogy written by Philip Pullman, an atheist from London who has a strong hate for the ideas of God and the Kingdom of Heaven. His books are about children who represent Adam and Eve and end up killing God, then the world does as it pleases after that. The movie is a dulled down version of this. The point of the movie is to get unaware parents to take their children to see it, enjoy the story, and then buy the books for their children for Christmas. In these children's books are references to castration and female circumcision. It's disturbing. Spread the word and help boycott!”

I will keep this short. Do I have a problem with the book? Couldn’t tell ya, I have never read it. Do I have a problem with the movie? Not as of yet. I saw it and thought the connection to killing God is so remote that it would be hard for most anyone to see without being told. Now given the fact that this is a trilogy, I have no way of knowing what is in store for the future movies. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Overall, would I recommend this move for children? With the plot being as complex as it is with the combination of some amount of violence, in my opinion this movie would neither entertain nor be appropriate for young children. For those in their teen years, I think the parents will need to decide based of their own kid’s maturity.
